The Cawood Wistow and Selby Light Railway

First opened on Wednesday 16th July1898 by Lord Mayor of York

Large crowds gathered to watch despite the gale force winds.

Passenger services ceased in 1929 except for excursions and Sunday school trips.

Freight continued to be carried until the1950’s

The trains carried bales of sraw and hay newspapers and letters wood and vegetables as well as passengers.

After the closure the track was removed and  houses were built on the site
