Industry and Farming

The village has had quite a few different industries throughout the centuries.

Brick and tile manufacturing was popular in early medieval times

Sack making was a cottage industry

Farming was the most common with as many as 40 farms in the village at one time

The farmers grew  teasels which were used in the West Riding in the cloth making process

Ship building and pottery making were also common in the past

Across the village are clay extraction pits used in the Brick and Tile industry
